MISSION
Welcome to Laboratory of Physics at Surfaces - LPS
Bienvenue au Laboratoire de physique des surfaces

The subject of our research was the investigation of the structural, electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of supported nanostructures. In the focus of our interest are single atoms, very small clusters, and small organic molecules. These nanostructures are supported on atomic-level characterized metallic single crystal surfaces and on supported ultrathin dielectric films. The experimental tools comprise atomic-resolution scanning probe methods (STM, STS, STM induced light emission) down to low temperature (4 K) and relevant surface science techniques.

Professor Wolf-Dieter Schneider has retired and the Laboratory has ceased all activities in October 2009.
